Speeds at a glance
Here you learn how fast you may drive on each road type, with a trailer and at each sign. Each part has its own page.
- Speed limits inside and outside built-up areas: 50 km/h inside a built-up area (bebouwde kom), 80 km/h outside. In a 30 zone 30, on an erf walking pace (at most 15 km/h).
- Maximum speed with a trailer: never faster than 90 km/h, even if a sign or the time of day allows more. Outside a built-up area it is 80, inside 50.
- Speed on the motorway: without another sign: 130 km/h. A 100 sign with the 6-19h sub-sign means 100 from 6:00 to 19:00. Your vehicle must be able and allowed to do 60 km/h.
- Speed on the autoweg: outside a built-up area you may drive 100 km/h. There is no minimum speed, but your vehicle must be able and allowed to do at least 50 km/h.
- Speed limit signs: a round white sign with a red border is a maximum, a blue square sign only a recommendation. If a matrix sign shows a lower speed than the fixed sign, the matrix sign takes precedence. With different speeds, the lowest applies.
How much room you need to stop is explained under braking and stopping distance. What a red cross above your lane means is covered under matrix signs.
