Car Lighting: Safe and Visible
Always use the correct lighting to be visible and see well. Dipped headlights are the most used lights and may be on at all times, even during the day. They illuminate the road without dazzling others.
High beams are used only at night on unlit roads without oncoming traffic. They are bright and can dazzle others, so switch them off quickly when there are oncoming or preceding vehicles.
Parking lights are used only to make parked cars visible, not while driving in the dark. Daytime running lights turn on automatically in modern cars and are meant for daytime use with good visibility.
Fog Lights
Use front fog lights only in severely reduced visibility due to fog, snow, or rain. The rear fog light may only be used when visibility is less than 50 meters due to fog or snow, not rain.
Dashboard Indicators: What Do They Mean?
Dashboard lights provide important information about your car’s condition. They warn of issues like broken lights, engine faults, or low tire pressure. Do not ignore these signals and check your car promptly.
Giving Signs and Signals
Use your lights and sound signals to warn others of danger, for example by flashing your high beams briefly or using the horn. This is only allowed to prevent danger, not to warn about controls.
Always indicate in time with your turn signals when turning, merging, or exiting a roundabout. This helps other road users understand your intentions and react safely.
