Parking and waiting: the difference
Waiting means briefly stopping to let people in or out or to load/unload. Parking means stopping longer, for example to make a call or set navigation.
Prohibited places and signs
A no-parking sign is blue with a red border and diagonal red stripe. You may not park but may wait here. A no-stopping sign looks similar but has a red 'X'. Here you may neither wait nor park.
Parking in special areas
Parking spaces are often marked with lines or colored tiles. Park neatly within the lines. Some spaces are reserved for specific vehicles like trucks or disabled persons. Pay attention to the signs.
Parking outside built-up areas and on motorways
Outside built-up areas, you may park where not prohibited. On priority roads outside built-up areas, parking on the carriageway is forbidden. On motorways and expressways, stopping is only allowed in emergencies on the emergency lane or rest areas.
