Sign code
B6
Category

Traffic signs
Give way to drivers on the intersecting road.

B6 requires you to give way to drivers and riders on the crossing road. It is an inverted triangle with a red border. You must stop when necessary to give way safely, but the sign does not require a complete stop in every situation.

What to do at this sign

Ease off the accelerator and look in both directions along the crossing road. Drivers and riders include more than car drivers: cyclists, moped riders and horse riders can also fall under this priority arrangement. Let them continue unhindered before crossing or joining.

Example on the road

At a roundabout entrance, B6 appears with give-way triangles. Let drivers on the crossing roundabout road proceed first. A cycle crossing may have its own priority arrangement: read the signs where your path actually crosses the cycle track.

Other conditions to check

Road-surface give-way triangles likewise require drivers and riders to give way to those on the crossing road. Pedestrians are not drivers or riders, but other rules may require you to let them pass, such as when turning or at a zebra crossing.

How to recognise the sign

An inverted white triangle with a red border.

Difference from B7 — Stop sign

B7 always requires a complete stop followed by giving way. B6 requires giving way; a complete stop solely because of this sign is unnecessary if the situation is clear.
