End of recommended speed.

A5 marks the end of a recommended speed. The previous advice for a bend or difficult road section ends here. It does not remove a compulsory maximum speed, which must be established separately from the remaining signs and traffic rules.

What to do at this sign

Check whether visibility and conditions actually improve as you pass. A recommendation relates to a particular situation, but rain, ice, traffic or restricted visibility may still require a lower speed after A5. The sign is not an instruction to accelerate immediately.

Example on the road

A bend has a recommended speed of 50 km/h. After the bend, A5 appears while the road has a 60 limit. The recommendation ends; the 60 maximum remains applicable. A repeated 60 sign is not necessary for you to continue observing it.

Other conditions to check

A panel accompanying a recommendation may explain the circumstances for which it is intended. Consider the recommendation, the legal maximum and current conditions separately. The number of the previous recommendation does not tell you the new permitted speed.

How to recognise the sign

Read the image, arrows and any text on sign A5; they distinguish this version within the speed category.

Difference from A2 — End of maximum speed

A5 ends a recommendation. A2 ends a local maximum. Their crossed-out appearance does not make the functions identical.
