Parking

E4 identifies a parking facility. The blue sign with a white P does not guarantee unlimited free parking for every driver. The indicated vehicle category, purpose, hours, marked bays and other local conditions determine how the place may be used.

What to do at this sign

Read the sign and supplementary panel together before leaving your car. Where bays are marked, use those bays. A panel may specify a group or parking arrangement. Payment or permit conditions may also be indicated separately.

Example on the road

E4 stands at a parking area with a panel indicating hours for a restriction. Establish which condition applies during that period and whether your vehicle qualifies. The P alone is no reason to ignore the smaller text.

Other conditions to check

Article 24 regulates matters including vehicle category, purpose, days and hours at parking facilities. For the signs listed there, stated days and hours operate as described in that article. Read the actual combination rather than assuming all parking signs impose identical conditions.

How to recognise the sign

Read the image, arrows and any text on sign E4; they distinguish this version within the parking and stopping category.

Difference from E1 — No parking

E4 identifies parking with a P. E1 is a circular parking prohibition with a red border and diagonal line. A P and a restriction line have different functions.

E1 — No parking

Practise this sign for your theory exam

Parking belongs to the Parking and stopping category. In the CBR theory exam a traffic sign is almost never asked on its own: you are shown a situation and have to know what you may or must do in it. In the free sign trainer you practise the signs by category, with the explanation shown right after every answer.
