Cycle/moped path: for cyclists and moped/low-power moped riders.

G12a identifies a combined cycle and moped path. The blue circular sign shows both a bicycle and a moped. Cyclists and moped riders use it according to their vehicle rules. It differs from a compulsory cycle path showing only a bicycle.

What to do at this sign

When moving from the carriageway to the path on a moped, check that the transition is safe. Follow its direction and watch for slower cyclists. The moped speed limit on a combined path depends on whether it is inside or outside a built-up area.

Example on the road

A yellow-plate moped travels on the carriageway and reaches G12a. This sign identifies a path for that moped to use. At G11, showing only a bicycle, that same moped generally does not belong on the path.

Other conditions to check

The general moped maximum on a combined cycle and moped path is 30 km/h inside a built-up area and 40 outside. These speeds do not apply to every path user: light mopeds have a different limit, and conditions may require slower travel.

How to recognise the sign

A circular blue sign with white arrows or a white symbol identifying the road users concerned.

Difference from G11 — Mandatory cycle path

G11 identifies a compulsory cycle path. G12a identifies a combined cycle and moped path. The additional moped symbol has a real legal effect.
